Being ‘Tough’ Ain’t So Tough
Claiming you’re ‘right’ just ain’t alright
When that right is based on might
And all the the rights that remain
Are judged as wrong.
It takes understanding you just don’t get
It takes patience you can’t wait for.
And a form of love
You’d rather love to hate.
Maybe it’s tougher, my friend
To stand fast in your convictions
Enduring waves of hate;
Choosing truth over fiction.
Maybe it’s braver by far
To make the effort to understand
Approach all with compassion,
Drop the knife; offer the hand.
Maybe a true sign of strength
Is to stand despite the blows
Be the example to those around you
Until the message grows.
Being tough ain’t so tough
With all those guns to back you up
No bullet ever took down an idea.
With just your feet on the land
And your heart in your hand
Show the haters the love they truly fear.
