Keeping Me

My moss-covered walls

Have seen fall away

Many, I’m sure,

I might have asked to stay.

Conversely, these stones,

So deliberately placed,

Save me from:

The Users, the Abusers,

And the devious Two-Faced.

In a well-guarded courtyard

Is a keep so stout.

No-one gets in

And only my double

Ventures out.

Each brick has a scar

With an initial beside.

But none will see these

They are on the inside.

Scars of remembrance,

Wounds from having cared –

And all mark their reason

For that stone being there.

So, be you friend or betrayer

You are welcome, dear caller.

Be you lover or hater,

My walls only grow taller.
