Oh, Little Minds of Washington

Oh Little Town of Washington

(Based on the ‘Forest Green’ version)

Oh little minds of Washington

How easily you lie.

C Am7

From Operation Mockingbird

To poisoning our skies.

And in those back rooms, strategise

Am C G

The worst of humankind.

C * Am C

In that cesspool, where dollars rule,

Dwell the heartless and unkind.

How silently, how cunningly,

The corporations rule:

More drugs, more bombs,

More surveillance, too;

But poor health and failing schools.

Few ears hear the warning calls

With their eyes fixed to their screens.

Mesmerised by fakery and lies

The media amphetamine.

Left or right; straight or gay

All struggle to pay their bills

While fools fall for divide and rule,

They’ll make more profit, still.

The greatest threat to peace on earth

Are resources in the ground.

Where death fills wallets faster than life

Those boots come stamping down

While half the world is dumbing-down,

The rest flee burning homes

And for lands bombed back to kingdom come

The IMF offers loans.

For none can stop the dollar.

Let no chance for profit pass!

Though ‘beautiful, little babies’ cry,

Where there’s blood, there’s always brass.

Where a soldier’s life is worth far less

Than the firearm he holds

But far more than an unarmed man

The cops leave dead and cold

Where thought is crime and discourse, suppressed,

Where hurt feelings are a sin,

In Orwell’s grave, the prophet himself

Is weeping as he spins.

So, people of the world wake up

And lift your myopic eyes.

Let us all, as one, now disengage

From the blood money and the lies.

Let’s put those who cry for death and war

In a shallow, front-line trench.

While those for peace will share a drink

On a shaded front-row bench.
