That Didn’t Do It.

I said “I’m sick of all your lies.”

So they took away my ears,

Thinking I would hide away,

And slink away in fear.

That didn’t do it.

That couldn’t do it.

There’s more than one way to hear.

.

I said “I saw you take those lives.”

So they came and took away my eyes.

Thinking they could take me down

With a cut to my blind side.

That didn’t do it.

That couldn’t do it.

There’s more than one way to see.

.

I said, “I will speak of truth to you.”

So they took my voice from me.

But a touch conveys a thousand words

You can’t cage them once they’re freed.

That didn’t do it.

That couldn’t do it.

There are many ways to speak.

.

I asked “How do you live with yourself?”

So they ripped my heart from me.

But a heart that’s shared by many souls

Will beat eternally.

That didn’t do it.

That couldn’t do it.

There’s more than one way to feel.

.

I said, “I don’t kneel to the voice of hate.”

So they ripped my bones from me.

But, I laughed out loud and danced away

From their superficiality.

That didn’t do it.

That couldn’t do it.

For there’s more than one way to stand.

.

I sang, “Nature is immortality.”

So they tried to take my spirit from me.

But their greedy hands could never understand –

It wasn’t where they thought it would be.

They couldn’t do it.

Could never do it.

There are too many ways to be free.
