The Path to Freedom

Condemned by all

‘Right-thinking’ folk –

Yet he always seemed

Such a nice, quiet bloke.

So many injured,

So many dead.

‘Radicalised’, ‘mad loner’,

The media have said.

Ties to this faction;

Connections with that,

On terror watch lists,

But still managed to act.

Known and surveilled,

Yet couldn’t be stopped.

Suicided self…

Or suicide by cop.

How did the enemy

Get inside our gates?

He may well have answered,

But now it’s too late.

Fear for our children,

Fears for our fate,

Fears for our safety,

Let’s turn to The State.

Time to be tougher,

Time for new laws.

Surrendering freedoms

“Only way to be sure.”

Those who ask questions:

Vilified, hated,

Silenced and scorned,

Unpatriotic, denigrated.

Now, watch what you say,

What you think, what you do.

All screens are watching…

And your dishwasher, too.

We’re glowing at airports,

Cooked by our phones,

Baked by ‘smart’ objects

We buy for our homes.

So keep your thinking in line

and narrative-true

For the ‘good’ of your nation

That ol’ Red, White and Blue.
